More than 90 percent of U.S. businesses are controlled by families. A significant number of family owned businesses are substantial firms with sales of over a million dollars per year. Indiana University of Pennsylvania is in a strategic position to offer educational programs to a vast number of family-owned businesses located in southwestern Pennsylvania. The Center for Family Business was designed to serve the unique needs of family-owned businesses. Issues such as succession, estate planning, conflict resolution, performance compensation, establishment of an effective corporate board, management of sibling and cousin teams, are critically important issues which are generally ignored by other educational forums. The center for family business addresses these and other issues. Because of the strong sponsorship support, the Center is able to charge a nominal membership fee. educational program consists of four meetings per year and focuses on the
