The role of
a university is threefold: to educate, to engage in research &
scholarly activities, and to serve the community.
The Management Services Group (MSG),
the umbrella organization for the outreach programs of the Eberly
College of Business, reflects IUP's commitment and has achieved success in all of
these roles.
The MSG was established in 1991 and has evolved into a multifaceted
organization which includes the Small Business Incubator, the Small
Business Institute (SBI), the Center for Family Business, the Government
Contracting Assistance Program (GCAP), and the Small Business Development
Center (SBDC). Since its inception, the MSG has assisted several thousand
businesses in such areas as marketing, financial analysis, business
planning, computer systems, management and general business procedures
as well as with opportunities to secure government contracts. The MSG
services are generally offered free of charge. For more
information about each center, please click on the organization chart
below.

A major objective of the MSG is to make a significant contribution to
the economic vitality of the region by providing consulting and other
related services to start-up and ongoing businesses. The MSG works
closely with the banking community and other entities concerned with
business and economic development such as, the Indiana County
Commissioners, the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana
County Office of Planning and Development, the Center for Economic
Operations (CEO), and the Indiana County Development Corporation (ICDC).
Through the MSG's programs, students receive valuable hands-on
experience, as they participate in establishing and developing actual
businesses. Results have been positive and dramatic. The MSG and the
Eberly College of Business value this partnership between community and
university and believe that the past is a prologue to an even brighter
future.
